I know I know, it’s kinda late, nevertheless, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Hello Comrade, it’s been a while, a long one dare I say, I hope you’re feeling okay wherever you're reading this from. After my last letter to you, I decided to go on a 2-week break to gather my thoughts and sort some things out. 2 weeks stretched into 3, 4…until the season of yuletide. I thought “surely I’d have to write now, tis the season after all” but on the contrary, I didn't - I was still bleak. The same thing happened during the new year, until now. It feels so good to write to you again.
December last year, while I was preparing for exams I got news that changed the whole trajectory of my life - admittedly, I didn't receive it so well - I’ll certainly write about it when I’m more articulate about how I feel, be sure to subscribe so you don't miss it and tell others too 😉.
For the first time in my life I’m intentional about setting goals and achieving them, so at the beginning of this year, I did just that. Drawing inspiration from one of my letters to you and also from here, I set up systems, actionable and realistic ones in the hopes that everything will go according to the plans I made, forgetting one very important thing - Life happens.
One of the ‘plans’ I had was to write more frequently to you starting from the first week of January but here I am, just writing to you in the fourth week. After the first week passed and I didn't write, I was angry at myself and my situation, right before my eyes, I watched all plans I had made crumble one after the other like dominoes and I became even angrier.
I write to you from experience, a recent one at that. If like me you struggle with perfectionism and its ripple effect, if you’re a stick-to-the-plan kind of person and spontaneity ruffles your well-arranged feathers, I want you to know that it’ll all fall in place in the end, you will find clarity. Sometimes these unplanned occurrences give us a chance to go back to the drawing board, to reevaluate, sometimes it brings even better opportunities our way and sometimes give us a second chance to do things better.
Before the experience that gave me this insight, I got worried at the slightest problems, my views on certain concepts were flawed and very biased based on the experiences I’ve had but now I can say for a fact that I am gradually shedding this old skin. I can’t tell you how to deal with your problems but I can only encourage you to not let them consume you, do not let them deprive you of seeing/experiencing the joys of life, even when it seems bleak.
